Season 9 of Lifetime’s Married at First Sight is coming to an end. In the finale which airs tonight at 8:30/7:30c, four couples will decide if they want to stay married or get a divorce. Here are my predictions on who makes it and who doesn’t.
Matt Gwynne and Amber Bowles started in a good place. They had physical attraction and sexual chemistry, but as the weeks passed, it was clear they were spiraling downward.
In a finale sneak peek, Amber told the experts that friends and colleagues saw Matt cheating on her. She had time-stamped screenshots and text messages as proof.
It’s hard to understand why Matt signed up for this. He disappeared for days to get a ‘break’, only to show up again with an apology and a promise to do better. He told Amber and the experts what they want to hear and then disappeared again to live a single life.
Amber and Matt were given the opportunity to quit halfway through the experiment. They decided to stay married despite their growing dysfunctional relationship and the emotional stress it caused them. Amber specified she wanted to give her marriage 100% so she would have no regrets.
I think they are finally at their breaking point. For that reason, I predict both Matt and Amber will choose to get a divorce.
Jamie and Beth have had extreme highs and lows in their marriage. They participated in what Dr. Pepper Schwartz called, ‘toxic fighting’. The explosive way they spoke to one another is like nothing I’ve seen on this show. Jamie left multiple times and even threatened divorce.
Despite that fact, they always forgave one another and kept coming back to try harder. This is truly a ‘can’t live with you and can’t live without you’ situation.
The last week of the experiment has been somewhat calm and they’ve been happy. Because they were in a good place right before Decision Day, I predict both Jamie and Beth will choose to stay married.
Greg and Deonna are the epitomai of how to be successfully married at first sight. First of all, they individually went into the process with a strong commitment to marriage. They assured one another from day one they were in this for the long haul.
Secondly, despite their very different love languages, they listened to one another, made adjustments, met with the experts and put their advice into practice.
Greg and Deonna worked hard to build a foundation of communication, trust and respect to bridge the gap towards intimacy. I believe they will choose to stay married and soon will be using the “L” word.
Iris and Keith are physically attracted to one another, but they had a great deal of difficulty communicating. Iris said she was an open book, while Keith admitted it was hard for him to open up to his wife.
Iris needed to feel cared about and loved in order to work on sexual intimacy. Keith needed sexual intimacy to feel loved and cared about. Because he wanted to respect Iris and ensure she didn’t feel pressured, he kept himself at a distance.
I really feel they have the qualities each are looking for in a long-term partner. I predict they will choose to stay married and work on their communication and love language issues, beyond the eight weeks.
